wish I had found this a day earlier. This I think is the answer I was looking for. I have just finished painting 2 large bookcases, 40 years old from 'This End Up - solid heavy unfinished pine...., with AS chalk paint, took almost 3 coats of paint to finally cover it. After it dried for many hours, I went to wax it, and the wax pullled the paint around to make it a bit streaky. I had done a previous book case that was a small finished case with solid coat of shellac on it. Even though that coat was old, the chalk paint went on that one just fine....so I thought the larger ones would be easy. I didn't realize there would be so much bleed through and patchiness in the unfinished wood cases. woof....what a streaky mess. If this were my first project I'd have sworn off of the stuff. But now I know better! Thanks for all the clear instruction. I'm glad I've found you, and am following for my future projects!!

Why does chalk paint need wax?

I am a first time distresser! I am doing an old piece. It looks kind of waxy right now. I know you said you don’t need to sand but should I to remove,that waxiness? Also I am going to paint it white. Should I use clear or white wax?

wouldn't u sand it if it has scratches etc? Doesn't chalk paint pick up imperfections and scratches?

I am new to this. Will a dark color paint show through a light colored flower transfer? Do you have to seal the piece before you apply the transfer. This dresser you did is gorgeous! Love it.

Thank you for this tutorial! I just bought a desk that is solid, but the finish is shot. I want to continue using the desk while removing the stain and finish. Can this be done in stages and, if so, what would you recommend as a way to protect the unfinished parts?

Do you have to do 2 coats of chalk paint to do distressing ?

Hey Deanna! Ugh. I have been working with a set of very STUBBORN pieces. I cleaned my pieces very well w Krud Kutter, did two coats of shellac, and when I went to apply my light pink paint tannins were showing through. I then did two more coats of shellac over those areas and repainted. After I finished, the pieces looked great until I applied polycrylic. Then, tannins came through AGAIN in other areas. 😭😭😭😭 I have now applied shellac again, but one piece has shellac brush strokes. I’m about to literally cry. Is there an easy fix to those shellac brush strokes? Thank you so much for any help. I’m at my wits end. 😢

Can you tell me how well painted fabric on something like a kitchen chair would wear? Some of the tutorials I see seem to be for accent chairs and not highly used chairs.

I do not do this type of crafting but I want to learn. I like the results of both projects! I probably would wax the transfer on the Asian look gold picture. It looks like a pricey piece of art!

Ok this js THE BEST tutorial for chalk paint!!! I am refinishing an old kitchen sideboard into a bathroom vainty using black Annie Sloan chalk paint and I have watched countless videos and tried a lot of techniques but I am not satisfied with the results I am getting. I am definately trying the roller technique, which no one else talks about in their videos. Thanks a million ❤🎉

Awesome Job! ... Beautiful! i wonder if there's a way the mild imperfections could've been masked (prior to painting..) ??🤔 .. perhaps not on a highly textured item.. But with this one being small squares.. could drawing the pattern in with a puffy product.. 🤔.. or perhaps even hot glue..??... if lightly drawing in the pattern under the paint to create a faux pattern...🤷‍♀️ Could something like this have helped??.... just me over thinking.. 😁.. Lol!!... Regardless, your piece is absolutely Lovely! i would definitely buy it at a sale!! 💗.. *Just sharing for ur Thoughts, Please!! ... Im Not sure if this would work with chalk paint... But I'm getting ready to do some large high-back Victorian chairs so been watching creators for ideas, in hopes of a nice outcome! i saw something interesting in one video... the creator used regular ( latex paint ) & mixed it in Equal parts with Fabric softener..😳.. it made the latex paint thicker.. she then did the same as you, & dampened the fabric as she went along with a spray bottle of water.. of course as viewers, we cant feel the finished product.. :/ but she claimed the fabric softener mix created a finished product that was soft( as the orig fabric)... 🤷‍♀️ she did use a wax, she said was just to mildly darken the corners (to create a slightly worn effect..).. Your thoughts PLZZZ! Need all the help i can get..& sure don't want mistakes i cant undo 🤗 TYSM for sharing ur wisdom & all your crafty gifts!💗 @DIYDEANNA 💗

Oh my, I thought it was best to decoupage before waxing!

This is a really helpful video as I’m contemplating a dye project… would it be possible to dye a darker colour? I have a cobalt blue garden seat pad that I would like to make green - my plan is to dye it yellow, it should work and produce a dark green I’m thinking? Thanks 😊

All I can say is WOWSERS I am truly impressed with both of these projects!!!!!!!!!! I have never worked with transfers but you have definitely changed my mind. I have already checked my " frame " situation and might have to go to village to see what they have that has a good frame and sturdy back. I am late coming to your site but better late then never.
